Ahidjo stepped down on four November 1982 and remaining energy to his constitutional successor, Paul Biya. However, Ahidjo remained in control of the CNU and made an effort to operate the country from at the rear of the scenes until Biya and his allies pressured him into resigning.[31] Ahidjo pursued an economic policy of prepared liberalism, prior
